Painting a Clamshell iBook?

I was wondering if anyone has (or knows how to) paint a clamshell iBook. I assume you would have to paint the inside, so all the plastics would have to be removed first. Is this extremely difficult? I've heard that the clamshells mostly suck to work on, so this might not be worth the time. Also, is the case transparent enough to show a different coloured paint through it? Or would it just be ugly.

The white clamshells can look great when they're painted, but that might just be because they are meant to be painted that way (you strip the white paint off the inside then repaint it with a different colour). I wouldn't want to paint a white iBook, because I can't think of any better colour for them, but the clamshells are another story

Some help on this would be appreciated, as I'm unsure of how to remove the plastics etc.

Thanks!

Actually not. The clamshell casin is made of at least three materials. Colored plastic, Ruberized colored plastic and whitish plastic. Painting the bottom casing would require a complete disassembly as everything is fastened to the bottom case from the top. I'm talking every single screw here! Once you've done that, there is no gaurantee that the bottom metal plate isn't permenantly fastened to the plastic.

Beyond that the plastic color is too deep and I dont think there is a color you could paint it that would make it look decent.

Trust me, leave it as is.

There used to be some good links awhile ago (Has it really been years?) but they seem to have evaporated.

Try www.applefritter.com or www.macmod.com

They might have some pointers for you to get you started.

Hehehe HowEver, I remember that thread. I don't think the problem was that he modded it and was trying to sell it, it was more that he kept advertising it (in multiple threads) here on ehMac, quite a few people are actually interested in painted iBooks (check out eBay) but I'm not so sure about the clamshell iBook.

Thanks for the tips, andreww. I don't actually have a clamshell iBook, and I was trying to figure out whether or not painting it would be feasible before I bought it, because I am not extremely fond of the design, but thought that painting it to customize it might be neat and fun (and would give me a cool looking iBook). From your post, I see that it would be neither fun (Arg! All the screws! I would be sure to destroy something before I was finished) nor would it result in a cool iBook (probably wouldn't see the paint through most of the plastics.

Thanks for the links, dolawren, those are some good modding sites.

Thanks for all the help, I am most definately not pursuing this project.
