Question G5 - Won't start up

My new G5 1.8DP -10.3.7- is just over a week old and now I can't get it to start. I had almost finished installing the hardware and software. As far as the start up will go is to display a gray screen with the apple and spinning pinwheel. After waiting a few minutes the fans increase speed to max.

I've run dish utility, verify and permissions, cocktail and fsck. What will work without erasing and re-installing everything. Would like to keep this as the primary/startup drive. (I've installed a second hard drive and have installed X and some software on it. Running ok.)

Any suggestions or sites recommended that deal with this problem.

OSX seems so much more fragile than OS9!!!

It's not but somewhere you've busted the system during the install. Just do an archive and install - you'll be fine.
What's your RAM config.???

The ram is two sticks of 256 mb that came with the machine.

Did an uninstall of office 2004 test as I had the x version installed. Still ran. Could that have caused a start up problem?
