iPhone Upgrade Question(s)

Hello again,

I'm about to upgrade from my trusty iPhone 6 to an iPhone 11. I've been using the 6 for years with iOS 10.3.3 and using iTunes v. 12.6.2 to backup locally and Image Capture to download photos. My iMac is running 10.9.5.

Will iTunes and Image Capture still work with an 11? I'm really not interested in upgrading everything to accommodate a phone.

Thanks in advance!

I just tested my iPhone 11 with image capture and it loaded all the photos with no issue. iTunes still works with the iPhones.

Thanks for the reply!

My concern is that the iOS that the 11 is using won't be compatible with older an older OS (Mavericks) and older versions of iTunes/ Image Capture.

That I do not know, I am using Mojave myself. Maybe someone who still has Mavericks and a newer iPhone will be able to answer.

Is there a reason you are not moving beyond Mavericks?

Older machine that runs well and have no reason to upgrade - except possibly for now. This is why I'm trying to find out if they are compatible. Very tough to get a straight answer to this out there in the ether.

You could try installing a newer OS as a virtual machine and try it that way. That is generally how I do my testing before moving to a new OS.

System Requirements
Apple ID (required for some features)
Internet access
Syncing to Mac or a PC requires:
macOS Catalina 10.15, using the Finder
macOS El Capitan 10.11.6 through to macOS Mojave 10.14.6, using iTunes 12.8 or later
Windows 7 or later, using iTunes 12.10 or later

Also, new phones to be announced next week.

You could look at using iCloud Backup instead of upgrading to support the new phone?

Hmmm... As I'm curious as to why you are even upgrading your iPhone 6.

Just for the record, I'm also using Mavericks 10.9.5, but then again I do not even use an iPhone, and an old Dumb Samsung flip phone serves my needs quite well and is super cheap to run for my limited use using 7-11 prepaid Speakout cell service. $25.0-$50.00/yr covers my cell phone use quite well.

Don't forget to keep your backups current and up-to-date.

I think if I actually needed a phone I would rather have a flip phone again. I loved the size and battery lasted ages. My favourite was my Sony Ericsson T28, thought it was the most high tech looking device. That being said I no longer really need a phone as in a device I need to talk to people on. Sure it gets used for that on occasion but I would say 95% if not more is all done via text through different services like Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts, Apple Messages, and email. I could not live with a flip phone anymore.

Apple did just announce the new iPhone 4 yesterday. Looks like they are going retro. I am sure it is better in every way and the fastest phone they have ever made!
