I have a bunch of old CDs which I would like to digitize to store and use on my iPad or iPhone. I have a USB SuperDrive. Is there anyway I can use it with my iPad by getting an adapter? I’m thinking of getting an MacBook Air. Is that the only way I can do this?
Thanks for your response. I think you are right. The CDs are my old music collection, purchased commercially. When I retired I swapped out my MacBook Air for an iPad, forgetting about the CDs. I use the iPad mainly for browsing and photo storage. I thought about borrowing a MacBook to transfer the music, but then how do I get it into my cloud? I guess I could log in to iCloud on any Mac? Or just put it all on a USB and transfer to my iPad with an adapter? it’s getting harder to keep up!
There's a bunch of options, but none of them are as easy as they should be! I suspect if you used someone else's Mac to sync with iTunes, it would want to wipe your existing data first, but I'm not positive as I haven't gone that route in a while.
There is iTunes Match, which is pretty cheap for what it is (IIRC about $25 a year.) With it you could Rip your CDs in iTunes, and they would be stored in the cloud. Then, you could access them directly on your iPad just by turning on Sync Library. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204146
Thanks Polywog,
So it definitely sounds like I need to break down and get another MacBook. I found another interesting forum on this topic, link below. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...-ipad.1454895/
iTunes Match sounds good and I do have an Apple Music subscription. (I actually thought iTunes had been retired!)
Forgive this philosophical intrusion. I guess it's what you want out of your music. I dropped iTunes because they would support hi-bitrate FLAC files. I'm also not a fan of the iTunes library catalog system. I prefer to keep my music arranged manually. Give a listen to Swinsian; sure sounds good to my ears.
Thank you for introducing me to Swinsian. I hadn’t heard of it and I’ve downloaded the free trial to play around with it.
This is introducing a new topic, but I would love to get rid of the subscription I have to Apple Music. I’m paying $10/mo. and the only reason I got it is so that I can play my music to my Sonos speaker. Apple is very good at discouraging the use of third party software!
