get rid of Apple update marker in dock?

So I upgraded to Mojave today on my 5K iMac. I like a few of the new features and the fact that system updates are not in the app store anymore. That being said it seems I have a constant "1" on system preferences as it tries to notify me that there is an update. The update it is showing is for Catalina and I am not upgrading to that. Is there a way to ignore and not show the update on the icon for the Catalina?

Well... remove the System Preferences icon from the dock?

I always do that when setting up a Mac - since it's available under the Apple Menu anyway.

Does not really help removing it from the dock as when going through the Apple menu is shows 1 update available as well. Just seems weird that this would constantly show till you do upgrade the entire OS. I would think that should be somehow separated from regular OS updates, like security patches, iTunes and Safari updates.

On the previous (High Sierra?) system, you could Command-Click (IIRC) the upgrade button when the major OS releases were available to tell it to "ignore" them. Not so in Mojave and higher, so far as I can determine.
