how to transfer iMessages from Mac to iPhone

My iPhone 5S seemed to have a big hissy fit last night and needed to be completely restored. It was doing a fun flashing apple logo. I guess it was upset about updating or something.

Anyway, I'm wondering how I can transfer my Message discussions from my Mac running 10.12.6 (High Sierra) to the iPhone. Or, is there a way to repopulate the discussions on the computer to the iPhone. Or, some sort of syncing.

The conversations made on the computer and the iPhone show up on each other and I assume this has something to do with Handoff.

TIA.

Try using your question as a Google search:

And the methods may very depending on how you have your settings set up.

Aren't all the messages supposed to show up on both your Mac AND iPhone If syncing or iCloud is used???

If so, I would think the messages are already there.

The messages are supposed to be in the cloud now. I got a new iPad Pro a few weeks back and decided to do a fresh install rather then backup and restore my old iPad mini. Entered all the correct info and was expecting it to pull my messages from iCloud but it did not work. I went on chat support with Apple and eventually the only suggestions they could give me was backup the old iPad mini and restore it to the new iPad Pro. Apple is apparently not all that confident in how this cloud syncing should work if the only suggestion is restore from an older product.

Thanks for the links, Patrick. You're Internet skills are better than mine.

I had them synced so, yes, all texts would appear on both the Mac and the iPhone. I did not have iCloud messaging turned on as it required that two-step authentication, which I didn't like and I don't think it works properly until MacOS 10.13, which I'm not yet using. Probably not until the next Mac!

I've tried a few of the settings and even some software, but no luck for me so far. There's lots of great software for copying messages from the phone to the Mac, but I haven't seen any do it the other way round.

Mind you, I've always had trouble with iCloud as well. Sometimes it doesn't update Contacts or Calendars.

It's not really a big deal as I have the messages on the computer, but it would be nice to have them on the phone as well.

Maybe when I'm back from vacation I'll poke around at it some more.

Maybe have a look and checkout iMazing.app. A must for iDevice backup IMHO, and I'm sure it can do that,

I also have avoided the 2SA on purpose but don't expect it to get better. ;-)

BTW, it seems if you do start using it but don't like it, Apple gives you 13 days to get out of it and if that isn't done, that user ID is stuck with it forever!!!

One needs to read the fine print so as not to get trapped!!!

Of course, 2SA does suit some people, but I'm not one of them.
