I tried both iMazing and DrFone, found the iOS 9.3.5 download, but the price tag for the software stopped me. I donít know if this old phone is worth $70

iMazing say their free "trial" may version might work but has some limitations regarding recovery in that mode it seems:
[QUOTE]What are the limitations of the trial version?
Our trial is meant for you to preview iMazingís many features. Everything is accessible, but we restrict the amount of items which you can transfer./QUOTE]

Worth a shot if it'll let you get back into some type of Restore mode.

Or for alternatives, try a google search:
restore iPhone 4s lost password etc.
https://www.google.com/search?q=rest...hrome&ie=UTF-8

This might be a good site to try: (with Apple supported comments yet)
How can I unlock my iPhone if I forgot the passcode?

If you are the owner of the iPhone - have you considered calling Apple help? Never know.

iMazing does offer free options, but the restore option I need is not free - you need a $59 USD license.

None of the othe solutions will work because iTunes is trying to restore to iOS 9.3.5 which is no longer on the Apple servers.

I found a file that says itís ios 9.3.5 and maybe iMazing would install it, but I donít want to pay.

iPhone 4s hasnít been supported by Apple for years, so no use calling them. The only thing I can see on the screen now is the picture I posted earlier.

So, itís a brick. Or a paperweight.

All the more reason to give them a call. After all you don't want to be going around advertising that their stuff is only good as a paperweight.

Another thought, maybe contact some of the kids around your area, some of whom no doubt are really good at hacking stuff and have means of getting it back to life!!!

PS: I thought that everymac article that references to Apple's methods of restoring it would work, maybe lose any data but I don't think you care about that.

It should have worked but it kept failing because the required software was not on the server. Apple no longer supports iPhone 4s and therefore doesnít support those early versions of iOS. The only way is some third party fix - and thatís expensive.

I wonder if somewhere in the process of attempting a jailbreak might give you something that can get you going....?

And - will the IPSW 9.3.5 for iPhone 4s on this page give you what you need?

The comments there donít sound promising and that page refers to jail breaking 9.3.5. If 9.3.5 installed, I wouldnít need to jailbreak it.

I downloaded the Ipswich file, but you need third party software to install it and I donít have and canít afford the software.

I was wondering the same thing or at least some method and version of using some method or version of jailbreaking.

I find it hard to believe that Apple is so hard up that they can't support or help a user With an IDevice that is now almost basically useless. I thought they abhorred waste, especially of their own products!!!

As I said, I'd sure be giving Apple a call.
