Apple Watch ECG function

Apolgies if this was covered somewhere else, but i can't find it.

If I buy an Apple watch in the US will the ECG function work when I return to Canada even though my iTunes account is Canadian?

Thanks for the help

Google can be your friend for such questions!!!

Basically, the answer is "NO", but then there are the "maybe" "ifs" and possible hacks.

Maybe start here:
does Apple watch ECG function work in all countries, or add/change in Canada
https://www.google.com/search?q=does...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Then some hits:
Changing Your Apple Watch or iPhone's Region Won't Enable ECG App Outside of United States

How to Get ECG on Apple Watch Series 4 Outside U.S.
https://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-ge...utside-the-us/

That should get you started...

But you might want to have it working when you hit the Customs on your way back. At least they are close to the borderline...
And PS: The Canadian hospitalization treatment is a hell of a lot cheaper... so make sure you get to one of them from the Customs border point if the Apple watch does happen to go off... and it's still in range and working... ;-)

EDIT:
Actually, this looks a bit interesting:
You Can Use Apple Watch Series 4 ECG in Canada with US Region Workaround
BY CHRISTOPHER BAUGH 5 MONTHS AGO1010

Heck, why does it have to be "approved" for use in Canada when the user will probably only be using it as a guide and/or whether to get to a hospital or clinic or not???

Why chance it in the first place?

Once you add the USD exchange and perhaps duty, it will be almost the same price in Canada and presto, no issue!

My understanding is US Watch + US account. There are loads of great features besides ECG that make it a worthwhile purchase. So if that is your only holdout, but you'll save money buying it in the US, go for it.

If one has such a setup, they could probably save $60 to $80 on an Apple Refurbished unit.

They don't seem to arrive on the Canadian Apple Store Refurbished site for some reason, and I don't know why.

They're starting to roll out the feature in Europe. Any idea when it'll hit in Canada?

Are we talking months or 2020?

It's available now if you'd like to use the workaround:
You Can Use Apple Watch Series 4 ECG in Canada with US Region Workaround
https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/news/y...on-workaround/

Health Canada is not exactly renowned for its speedy approvals so 2020 may even be pushing things a bit.

But regardless, I would suggest you do some checking and maybe look at other alternatives starting here:
Apple Watch ECG function
how accurate is Apple Watch ECG function
https://www.google.com/search?q=how+...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Even your local drugstore will probably have better instruments for measuring your heart state that your doctor would gladly approve. And all approved by Health Canada and the Canada Heart Foundation, and the hell of a lot cheaper than any Apple watch!!!
