Question Disk Utility?

Ladies, Gents, I've always had success with solutions here. So I'll give it another go.
My "new" Air, frustrated that it "seems' (because it might just be my perception) to have trouble with Flash material. For example, I'm a fan of Slacker and Radio Paradise, more recently, Google Play. When I visit these sites, I'm able to listen to 2-3 songs, on average, then the streaming stops. Stay with me for a moment...
Just to see, I opened my old 2007 MacBook, have been playing between those sites for more than two hours withOUT a single interruption. Crazy.
I checked Adobe Flash Player on the Air. It's enabled. It's current.
I checked the Disk Utility, did a First Aid successfully (I guess). On the Utility, it shows my Mac SD under the APPLE heading. Below that, I see two disk images. "Apple UDIF read only compressed bzip2 Media" for both. one's 'disk 2', one's 'disk 3'. Both about 170 MB. Both with Flash Player listed below the heading.
What IS this? Is it possible that this is contributing to my inability to stream some music through Flash? Do I need these? Should they be deleted?
As my old fart MacBook continues to rock away, I'm befuddled as to why the Air has issues.
Thanks in advance as I'm sure someone will shed light on this.

-Michael.

Sounds like the two items listed as "Adobe Reader" are the .DMG that has been mounted with the installer.

Eject both Adobe icons that are on your desktop and toss the DMGs that are in your Downloads folder.

Neither should have any effect upon your streaming capabilities.

Have you tried accessing those sites with another browser, such as Google Chrome (Chrome) to eliminate a Safari-specific issue?

Sorry, I've been using FF only recently. So maybe I need to check FF glitching.
These files are not in my Downloads or the desktop. Just showing up in the Disk Utility. So I'm not sure what you mean other than just dump them from the Disk Utility.

That spurred my memory - yeah, DU for some reason likes to keep them hanging around in the sidebar. No idea why. Just select 'em and delete 'em from the DU sidebar.

As for FF - possibly a FF issue. Maybe time for an update, but in any case, test with an alternate browser (or two) to see if it replicates, and we can troubleshoot from that point.

perhaps since it is a laptop the energy settings are putting it to sleep and stopping the streaming. I also discovered this using a flash site. Try changing sleep under Energy settings

Interesting. I did so. I'll monitor this, thanks.
I really think there's a bug in my Air, though. I've had nothing but connectivity drop-outs ALL morning, terribly frustrating. I'm typing for my 2007 MacBook, for God's sake. IT'S fine. But the Air isn't. I've tried the repair option in Utilities. Clean out my browser history, all 3 browsers. Restarted the Air. Think I even tried to dump out of my internet code in settings and re-register like a visitor coming to the house. Nothing. Some little %$^&*y bug is hiding inside this Air. Ridiculously frustrating. A new machine.

You may find relief with new DNS settings.... are you using your ISPs?

OpenDNS is one option:
  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220

Thanks for the replies. I think I might have solved things. I checked the Apple Discussions, others having issues with connectivity on their Airs. I was instructed to unplug everything from the wall, restart, blah-blah, go into the Safari Develop tab, clear the cache, restart. Seems a lot zippier, no hanging internet, the same clean surfing on Chrome/FFox. Weird. That simple? If necessary, 'Mark', would I input one of the DNS IDs in the Preferences, Network, etc.? Thanks.

Yup, in Network Preferences, under "Advanced" and the "DNS" tab. Delete whatever is there, and use the OpenDNS numbers I provided. Google also offers a public DNS (free) service, and there are many others....
