Fax SW recommendations?

Today, I needed to send a fax. No problem, I have FaxSTF X installed. (running OSX 10.2.8).

Needs to be updated, twice. OK, do that.
Doesn't work. Troubleshoot, troubleshoot, troubleshoot. No such luck.

SmithMicro helpfully provides info to completely remove the program. Excellent idea, I decide, and trash the pile of donkey-dung.

Now, I still need to send a fax.

Anyone using one of the alternatives and can share experiences? Although I was not planning to update to Panther, if anyone has experience with it's built-in fax feel free to add them; I will have to consider the cost of a standalone app versus a new OS.

Thanks.

I use Cocoa eFax, its a cheep shareware, works not bad.
No idea if it will work on Panther and have no intentions of finding out anytime soon if only half the posts I read here are an indication of how Panter works...

I installed Page Sender in Jaguar and it fails miserably. Out of 5 fax attempts, only 1 fax went out. Stopped trying as it was wasting my time. Right now I am forced to send my fax documents to my (ick) PC and send them from there with the free built-in fax software which works quite well. My PC stays on recieving faxes which I then transfer to my Mac for real use.

Am thinking of getting an all-in-one fax centre.

I've bought and installed PageSender; although it didn't work out-of-the-box for me, one addition to the modem string has it up and running seamlessly.

Tech support was great; I had eMailed FAXstf support and didn't recieve an answer (thier upgrade link not only didn't work, it prevented both Safari and IE from accessing another webpage until I restarted each app; the problem was consistent and repeatable) so in the meantime I went about d/l PageSender and registering/configuring it.

When I still had problems, PageSender support answered with a modified modem string that did the trick (enabling Mode 1, which I had configured FAXstf to use, so that wasn't the problem with Smith Micro's progam).

I was faxing before the FAXstf people auto-sent the "your question has been recieved" blurb.

Needless to say, FAXstf is out, PageSender is in.

It's too bad that USRobotics/Zoom bought and then killed Global Village; it was better fax SW than any of 'em (including every Windows app I've ever seen) and they've all had over 5 years to catch up. Oh, well.

Thanks to all who replied.

I bought and I'm currently using Page Sender. In my opinion it is the best Fax software program for Jaguar and soon Panther users. Their support team is wicked fast!! They even aloud me to test a fax out and sent me how it looked on their end. They will go all out to get you up and running in a timely and professional manner.

When I get Panther, I will not be using the built in Fax program, but continue to use and support Page Sender for an awesome product.
