Question new xplornet 4G modem + airport problems

This problem has been brought up in much older post but I thought there may be some more current info. I just upgraded my internet service to Xplornet's 4G satellite. Access is fine with an ethernet cable directly to the ViaSat Surfbeam modem but no wi-fi connection through the Airport Extreme. All set up procedures were followed. All numbers check out. Worked with an Xplornet tech and everything checks out with them. Macbook shows that the wi-fi is on and connected but internet access is a no go. Seems to be something in the communication between the macbook and the airport. Everything worked fine with the old 3G satellite system and modem. Is the airport perhaps not compatible with the new modem or is there a simple firmware fix or....? Thanks.

Modem post on Xplornet blog

Full disclosure: I work for Xplornet.

I published a blog about routers on earlier this week! You can see it here: Blog : Mapping the Right Route(r) Pick a router, set it up, and start sharing!

There are some troubleshooting tips for the Airport Extreme (on the list of supported routers). If you're still having trouble, give a shout to our support line and they'll help you out!

Hope this helps!

Fix for Xplornet - Airport Extreme set up issues

Hi ... I too have had issues with the Airport Extreme and the Xplornet 4G fixed wireless network (Eastern Ontario). After several attempts to have a sensible conversation with Xplornet, I finally found an Apple support tech who has a solution to Xplornet's problem. Here is what the Apple guy had me do:

In airport utility, double click on the Extreme icon, click Edit, select the network tab (router Mode should be DHCP and NAT), select the Network tab (Network should be Create a wireless network), select the Internet tab >>> here's the magic >>> set DNS Servers to and the next unlabeled field to

These DNS servers are built by Google and are free to use. The Apple guy was quite enthusiastic about them!

He could not speculate as to the nature of the actual problem, but this solution works. I now have all 10 of my devices connected to the internet with IP address of 10.0.1.x, as they should be. It would seem that Xplornet has an issue with their 4G implementation, but refuse to even investigate. Thanks APPLE!!
