I'm always fascinated with Macs and their users when their "ram slot has failed" and often wonder how or why. But it does happen it seems, i.e.:

Anyway, why not just use a single 8GB PC3-8500 module which should be quite ample for most OS X Mac user's work, and I can't see why that wouldn't work, at least according to the specs:
Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 (Mid-2010) Specs (Mid-2010, MC270LL/A, Macmini4,1, A1347, 2364) @ EveryMac.com

And it seems they're not that expensive with a quick google search:
8GB PC3-8500 Apple MacBook Pro Apple iMac Apple Mac MINI 1066 MHZ MEMORY RAM | eBay

Or maybe just check with Canada RAM sells Memory, Hard Drives, SSD and Computer Accessories in Canada in Victoria.
Excellent and very knowledgeable Mac dealer!!
