Exclamation Should ehMac.ca start charging for classifieds ... PLEASE READ

Now before people go and click away, please read the explanation.

I'm not suggesting ehMac.ca charge for each individual posting, but more so as a right to post. Like a one time fee with a membership and stipulations as the content and spam like we are getting now.

Classifieds are open for anyone to post whatever they want, and in that glory is the beauty of this site, however. Lately there have been WAY to many spam/scammers posting and it's starting to get a little ridiculous. It's almost as if the mod's aren't paying much attention to the classifieds, or just don't have the time. If it's a time thing, then maybe a change is in the cards. If it's the attention, then maybe a change is due for that too? Who knows.

You vote and comment as you please, that's what makes this forum great.

I vote Yes, with a small fee. But I also vote for a change in the Mod's, unfortunately you can only chose one choice. So make it the one you feel the most comfortable with.

I think the key things, is to have the classifieds more linked to the forums (community), and also have certain levels of restrictions on ads based on how long you've been a member of the community.

I'm looking into solutions on that, and found a new one that looks promising, but may need to mature more.

I like the idea of having a "certified member" area or designation, with something like maybe just a $1 payment to paypal or something.

Good discussion, please give me your input.

What if the only way you could post items for sale on the classifieds was if you were a sponsoring member?

I know price is an issue for some people, but perhaps if the membership costs were reduced to a more palatable price to cater to a wider audience (like students, etc.).

$36.50 isn't difficult for myself to part with, but perhaps if it was $19.99 even more people might be compelled to join?

Maybe I'm dreaming in technicolour...it's just a thought.

Whatever the solution is -- I am absolutely uninterested in a Classified area where random people who are not members of this community can post their legit sales, scams and spams.

There's Craigslist if I want that.

Uhh... me to. What do you propose we do about that? How do you prevent that in an online classifieds?

If it is too restrictive, then you don't get many people posting ads. If few ads appear, then it becomes a place where potential buyers for products doesn't visit often.

It's been suggested before that perhaps people should only be allowed to post ads until they've posted a certain number of times. Is that possible?

True, but were not asking for only sponsoring members to be able to reply/buy, only people that want to sell a product have to sponsor.

Anyone can reply or buy from a sponsored posting. Keep the classifieds open to the public for viewing/buying, people that want to sell must be sponsoring.

Also, in accordance with the reply regarding the price lowering, I am a Military Single Income family of 3 and sometimes it's a little tought to part with more than $20 at a time.

I would be more than happy to pay the $20 to become a Sponsoring member.

I honestly don't think that will work. Not to mention the people that come to this site that want to sell there mac related product having to post a certain number of times before they can sell.

I truely beleive that a $$$ Sponsorship is the way to go for people want to sell there items on ehmac.ca

How about a combination of the two?

I have seen that on other forums; trying to remember which ones.

On those you can either pay some fee for a privilege, ie posting in the classified on ehMac for instance, or, if you are a contributor (with some substance), you can post in the classified as well.

All we really want to do is eliminate the spam/scammers in the classified - right?
