If a mod wants to remove this thread that's fine with me

Crap.. I did a search before I made this to see if there was a thread, nothing showed up.. Then I tried a second time and it did... I apologize!!!!!

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only Canadian with Netflix, as so many people think it sucks.. While it is quite limited compared to the US, there are still quite a few good movies. I spent 3 months in bed after a surgery on my back, and feel like if I didn't have Netflix, I would have gone mad!!!

So what are come of your Netflix recommendations?

I'm a documentary lover myself.. Though I do love a good comedy or action flick... Here are some of my favs on Netflix Canada:

- The Union - Business Behind Getting High (actually a Canadian film)
- Exit through the Gift Shop
- Modify
- Generation Rx

I really could go on as I feel like in the 3 months I was in bed that I watched nearly every movie in the Netflix library, but I'll stop and let others add.

By the way, did you know Canadians can access the whole USA Netflix library, and it's super easy!! I wrote about it at the following link: http://chrisburke.ca/2011/08/14/canadians-can-access-netflix-usa/

Just an observation -- you (OP) posted to this recent thread, and then started a new thread of your own -- unsure why a new thread was necessary? Just wondering (not complaining, eh!!).

I actually posted this thread, then found the other one and posted it there, and asked if a mod would just delete this one...

Did you read my thread.. The top part of my thread...The part where I apologize... Where I said "I did a search and nothing appeared, so I created the thread, then did another search and it did appear.... Thanks for taking 2 seconds to actually read it before posting though..

We've had Netflix for several months. For the first four months service ranged from spotty to horrid - we only kept it because it was so inexpensive. Around Christmas time I was convinced that it was a service worth rejecting - either that or we were going to look into replacing our router, maybe get a better modem, or try one of those Powerline adapter solutions, etc. All of it costing extra dough. I was sick of all my wife's calls to Netflix and their replies that something had to be wrong with our network, assigning no blame to their end.

Then, upon our return from our annual trip to see family, we were astonished to find that the service was rock-solid... and has largely stayed that way. Occasionally there are some stuttering hiccups, sure. But we've watched countless hours of great programming with nary a glitch. The difference is huge.

Shows we've watched include Dexter, Bones, Rescue Me, Luther.... movies I've watched recently include Jarhead and Blackhawk Down. All in all, now that the service has inexplicably settled in, we're very happy with the available quality and variety. Makes going back to regular, commercial-laden TV an obnoxious prospect.

sinc: reading this very interesting thread. I received the same messages that you did but went back and did chrisburke's step by step and had success.

I did try and receive the movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and receive the"internet connection problem" message that you did but was able to watch/run, " A Murder of Crows" and now Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13" which is now running on my MBP.

I am going to try my luck and install the shield on my iMac and try for Downtown Abbey. I have read so many good reviews.
My MBP has a 13" screen which is fine for sick days in bed but prefer the larger screen if possible.

Is there any way to have this on my TV ? What type of connection? My Panasonic has a TV connection and if I had the cable that connected from MBP to TV, would that work to display these movies on my television screen ?

I am always making connection errors and somedays I almost expect the computer police to come and take my computers away from me, but for some reason this worked for me this morning. Surprise. I may never turn my MBP off.....(not serious)

What is the video out type on your MBP it is either mini display port, mini dvi or thunderbolt. You can get Mini DVI mini display or thunderbolt to HDMI cables.

If it is mini display port I have a cable that connects from the mini dvi to HDMI. To get picture and digital sound to the TV you need a cable like the one I have for sale in the classifieds.
