Need buying advice: Internet, digital TV in rural Ottawa
I currently live in urban Ottawa. I have Rogers for TV and Internet and am generally happy with them (honest), although it's pretty pricey because we have a lot of channels and specialty packages. My home phone is Bell.
I am about to move to a very rural area--no more cable. I have no idea what the options are in terms of suppliers, other than Bell for TV, I guess. I've heard of Xplorenet (for Internet) but the reviews seem mixed. I hear Rogers has "outdoor modems" (for Internet in rural areas) but are they any good?
So, forum users:
What are the best options for rural Internet? Is Bell Satellite the only game in town for rural TV?
All advice welcome!
While I'm content with my Bell TV service, there is also Shaw Direct which provides satellite TV services, so you can check both and see which one is more attractive to you.
As for internet, it depends on where you are. If you're within the actual City of Ottawa, just in the rural areas, you may have some options. If you're moving to a new municipality, there has been a high-speed service roll-out over the past few months, so you should call your local municipality to see which ISP is offering service in your area.
