Rogers Cable Modem

I've just moved to a new condo that is unknowingly pumping free Rogers internet into the rooms. I've gone ahead and cancelled my service in order to enjoy what I'm getting for free for as long as I can.

But when cancelling she reminded me of my cable modem. The junky piece of hardware I've been 'renting' from them. Stupid. Anyway, its $99.99 to buy outright (which I'm now thinking I should have done from the start). My question then, do I buy it, because I need it in order to continue to get the Rogers signal, or should I throw it back in their face and seek out a better cheaper alternative that will still give me access to their cable and internet signal?

Any help would be appreciated.

What makes you think they are unknowingly pumping free internet in the rooms. It works because you have your cable modem plugged in. If you unplug your cable modem it will no longer work.

Somehow, I doubt you'll find many here willing to help you with theft of service.

I want to know if I need to use the propriety Rogers cable modem they give you with your plan or whether there is a better cheaper alternative I could use instead.

Thanks for the comments guys but if you can't help with my issue, I don't really need your POV.

My understanding is it can take a month for them to disconnect. Pretty sure you won't get the free ride for long.

you can use any modem as long as they support it and have registered the mac address, the only reason your current setup works is because you have a modem registered with them. it has nothing to do with your location, you can take that same modem across the street and it work there as well as long as the somebody there once had cable internet
