Daughter threw cell phone in toilet...options?

So my 14 month old grabbed my Telus phone and tossed it into our toilet. It's more or less shot (it still dials out, receives calls, but the microphone/speaker don't function, and the battery won't hold any charge)
I guess I could do the following:

-Go to Telus, purchase a new phone for my existing package. Would I have to pay full price for another one, or would they give me some kind of deal? It's only six months old, I assume submerging it in water voids the warranty.

or is the following possible:

-Any way to get an iphone to work with Telus?
-Any way to purchase any other phone from someone other than Telus and have it work? (I'm thinking something off craigslist, etc, new or used)
-Would Telus re-activate the old phone I retired 6 months ago when I got this newer phone/ contract?

-Or what if I decided to switch carriers and go for a new iphone package, and keep my existing number? What kind of penalty would I expect to incur from Telus? (I have 18 months left on my contract, which is pretty good actually)

Any thoughts?

Sell her to the circus?

Oh, never mind about that "circus" thing. Yes, water automatically voids your warranty. Every cell phone has a water sensitive sticker on it somewhere that is a red-flag for water damage. You will have to pay full-pop for a new phone. Call Telus and ask if they have some cheap refurbished phones.

No. Nada. Negatory. Niet. No way, Jose. Not a chance. Dream on. Not in a million years.

Any unlocked CDMA phone should work with Telus, but you should double check that as I can't say for sure.

Yes, they should. If they don't, they are the spawn of Satan.

That's a question for Telus. Probably looking at a $400 cancellation fee. If you want to transfer your existing number to another carrier, do NOT cancel your service first.

Yeah there is no way possible for the Iphone to work on telus. Iphone is GSM and telus uses a CDMA cell phone network. Telus also has a strict policy not to activate a non telus phone. They have a database with ESN's (think SIN number for a phone) for all the phone he has sold. They should be able to activate your old telus phone though. I highly doubt they will give you much of a deal off a new phone since you are only 6 months into your contract.

If you let it *thoroughly* dry out, it might actually be okay. (Lots of people drop cell phones in toilets.) It's tough to tell when electronics are totally dry though.

The iPhone will not work with TELUS, and TELUS does not accept outside phones. They should be able to re-activate your old phone.

As I recall, TELUS' penalty for breaking your contract was $20/month left in your contract, up to $200.

You can activate another phone -- if you do it online, theres a ($10?) charge and if you do it with a service rep there's a higher ($35?) charge.

If you don't want to pay the Telus full price for a new phone, an option is to buy a pay as you go Telus phone from whoever has it on sale, and activate that. That's what I did when my wife's phone broke.

Your daughter knows a good thing when she sees it

She pretty much told you to DUMP Telus and switch to someone else

Your daughter is clearly a level or two above genius.

First if she is not already a member of Mensa start the wheels in motion immediately.

Second thank whatever God(s) you worship for sending you such a clear message via your daughter.

Third ditch the cell phone habit altogether.

You are *way* off on the Telus maximum. Way, way off.
