Repairing an office chair?

Bit of a problem here that may or may not be fixable. I bought an office swivel chair about 6 months ago, and recently, the bottom base (known as the gas or manual base) which the castors are attached to, has cracked. The rest of the chair is fine. I'd rather not replace the chair if I can just replace the bottom base with the 5 castor 'arms.' Are such replacement parts available, and, if they are, reasonably priced? (Prefer not to order replacement part(s) over the web.) The maker of my chair would not supply/sell said replacement parts to me. (already tired..)

If you work in an office with other people, just make it the Newbie Chair.

Most chair manufacturers do not have spare parts - they expect you to throw them away and buy a new one. If it is a metal base, you can see if a welding shop can weld it back together. I had a great chair that broke at the top, where the chair connects to the base, and I ended up throwing it out because I couldn't even find a welding shop that would "waste their time" on such a task.
