An interesting explanation, but if you will forgive me, it does leave the impression that one could be awaiting the outcome of the poll so one could "run with the pack" and be considered part of the mainstream. Once you have seen the poll results to date, it could easily be perceived to taint your position.

Maybe it's just me, but that's how I see it.

Population is THE number one issue because it underlies the others. There are already way too many people on this planet, but it is going to take a major change to get the problem addressed. If 50% of the population disappeared overnight there would still too many people. Nobody wants to talk seriously about population because we have made reproduction a sort of sacred cow. The idealogical ***** will really hit the fan when it finally dawns on a majority that the only way to deal with population is to control reproduction... Where this has been tried to any degree (China's 1 child policy) it has been resisted on all sides. There are groups such as the church of Rome who have made unfettered breeding a hallmark of their rhetorical position. Who would be permitted to breed? What level of breeding would be sustainable? And most difficult, how would this be enforced. Etc., etc.

I can understand how you might view that but there was no intention along those lines tho I usually don't vote immediately even when it's not public to avoid the follow the crowd aspect.

In this case I really had not.
In the case of Dion I wanted Rae to win but my sense was that Dion would and it turned out correct.

I DO hope I'm not correct that politics is the biggest hurdle in these issues....but I fear it may be.

Everything seems to stem from one source. The amout of humans on the planet. Get rid of the US, China, India, Indonesia and Ireland (we have to keep the Scots because of their whiskey) and watch what happens to the demand for fossil fuels, watch the weather reset, and watch conflicts remain regional.

Yep BUT that's not a solvable problem in the short term - it will start to taper down about 30 years out

Unless you happen to like a wee drop of Jameson's to cut the evening damp.... after all, the Irish make some interesting whiskeys, too...

Which serves to illustrate, in a sort of microcosm/macrocosm kind of way, the magnitude of the problem of addressing population... We can all recommend our variations of a "cull list"... (I have a few very specific suggestions I'd like to make ). But if we, the people, can't agree on carbon counts and such, how are we ever going to agree on how to, uh, edit the gene pool????

I picked climate change, though it was hard to do so. All four "horsemen" listed will be very serious concerns.

Thumbs down

Glad to see most are informed with whats going on... here in KW we are only expecting winter to really "kick-in" in late January... currently it's 5 degrees outside... I miss the snow*

*except when in congested traffic... people dont know how to drive in it! they go 50km/hr on the highway! Get some winter tires folks! Grrr

In other parts of the world I know its a huge deal... In my home country there are more and more floods each year and they are spreading badly! Yet I know I am personally responsible for a part of this... we each have our part to pay in destroying our environment by the way we life life to the MAX... MAX POWER [HYDRO]... MAX FUEL consumption... MAX GARBAGE production.... MAX POLLUTION... among other MAX's
