Sept. 2, 1998 - 229 people lost their lives off of Peggy's Cove. I remember the media coverage well, and it hit quite hard, despite not knowing or having any relation to anyone on board. It was the disaster I was the most interested in, and every year I go back to revisit the disaster. I'm not really sure why, but it just seems like such an important event to me. I was living in the tiny town of Antigonish at the time (in N.S.). It may have been because I was so close to where it took place.

Today, I remember those who were lost.

For those unfamiliar with the disaster, Swissair flight 111 reported smoke in the cockpit and crashed into the Atlantic less than 20 minutes after reporting an emergency at that time. Relevant links, with personal stories:

I remember that event quite well. I had just graduated from high school that year. It struck me quite hard as well, I've been to the site a few times to revisit it as well.
