Question Help me pick a system for my mom. Thanks

Help me pick a system for my mom. Thanks

I want to buy my mom a new system this weekend. I have $400 bucks to spend on a tower.

I'm considering this one....

AMD Sempron 3000+ 754 CPU
Foxconn 760GXK8MC-RS
Corsair 512 MB RAM VS512MB400
Western Digital 80GB (7200RPM) HD
LG DVD-/+RW 16X Dual Layer
SIS Integrated Graphic (Shared)
6-Channel Audio (Integrated)
Ethernet 10/100 LAN (integrated)
1.44MB Floppy Drive
PC CYBER Case - Thumb Screws
Internet Keyboard
Internet Scroll Mouse
Subwoofer 2.1 Speakers
3 Years Labour Warranty
1 Year Parts Warranty

$ 347.00

So, any thoughts.
She surfs and does email.

Thanks!
OM

ps..

I would love to get her a used mac mini, but I only have about a $400 dollar budget.

You're not going to get a much better deal than that, Ottawaman. Unless you went with a G4 Sawtooth or some variant. In which, I'd probably still go with the PC.. at least it'll be good to put Linux on when your Mom is done.

Don't forget the cost of a good Spyware/Virus program.
That sounded sarcastic, but no, really, it's a must.

If you have to configure it for her, my guess is she isn't a PC geek. Make sure you enable remote login/access, you will probably be spending a lot of time fixing it.

surfs and does email sounds like a candidate for a used iMac G3. Plenty of those to be had for under $400. plus...no viruses, spyware. I'm sure you know what yer doing tho.
