Quite a loss. Richard Pryor and a few other Americans plus the British comedians built most of modern comedy which, to me, was a giant leap forward from what preceded it. Laughter is divine.

I agree with the fine sentiment expressed by gw. Not even multiple sclerosis could have silenced his unique brand of humor. Sadly, "the heart is a lonely hunter", and he shall be missed.

Pioneering Comedian Richard Pryor Dies

By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ, Associated Press Writer 10 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES -
Richard Pryor, the groundbreaking comedian whose profanely personal insights into race relations and modern life made him one of Hollywood's biggest stars, died of a heart attack Saturday. He was 65.

Pryor died shortly before 8 a.m. after being taken to a hospital from his home in the San Fernando Valley, said his business manager, Karen Finch. He had been ill for years with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system.
RIP you funny guy. We will miss you. Michael Jackson won't.

EDIT: Please don't post full articles.

He very nearly destroyed me when he teamed with Gene Wilder. They were a great pair in those movies! I too will miss him.

I remember him from Superman III more than his stand-up (I was too young to listen to it at the time)
