Arrow The Automotive Thread

Some really big changes good and bad happening in the automotive world. Thought a devoted thread might be in order.

Off the top why not bring almost all of the worlds least competent automakers under the same umbrella and a proposal to do just that:

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is considering a merger with European conglomerate PSA, the group that owns Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel and Vauxhall, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal breaking late October.

If the deal goes through, it could create a US$50-billion global Goliath of a company, with Peugeot CEO Carlos Tavares at the helm of the joint venture, says the Journal.

FCA chairman John Elkmann would continue in his current role after the merger.

Tavares is, among other things, credited with saving Opel from the dustbin. PSA purchased the brand from General Motors back in 2017, and the exec got Opel to turn a profit just 18 months later.

Peugeot yikes.. they only care about their F1 division..
FCA should create Jeep & Ram as a separate and wholly own jeep & Ram corp.. leave it alone then do what they want with Chrysler and dodge..

I am a jeep owner and love the brand, dont want it to be neutered by climate change european corporations.

A very long winded article which says the same thing I said. However I used just one sentence back in the original post.

Yikes GM had huge issues for several years after it started offering four wheel disc ABS brakes. You would think they would have learned from that but nooooo:
https://driving.ca/chevrolet/silvera...-braking-issue

Quote:
GM is recalling more than 600,000 vehicles worldwide for a software issue that can cause the brakes to activate on their own.

The vehicles affected are four-wheel-drive trims of the 2014 through 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra; and 2015 through 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and GMC Yukon models equipped with the 5.3-litre V-8 and a 3.08 rear axle ratio.

The issue involves the programming of the system designed to stop the wheel speeds from varying significantly. The wheel speed sensor can fail, causing the opposite side wheel to brake, pulling the vehicle to one side and increasing the risk of a crash.

GM is hopeless. My vehicle has a repeat false error that indicates I have an issue with Traction Control. It solves that problem with a safety feature that cuts the power to the engine by as much as 100%, leaving you stranded. What sort of safety feature is that? It's been the cause of 10s of thousands of complaints, but has received no attention.

I have personally replaced enough components to stop that specific problem (it can be caused by more than a half-dozen failures), but I still can't use Traction Control without other problems rearing their heads, including temporary disengagement of power.

Meanwhile, I receive constant worthless reminders about a recall that involves the ignition key moving too far forward when I start the car.

Who knew? Rats can drive. That would certainly mean they are further evolved than some of the Froot Loops driving the Crowsnest highway.

If we all want to live our best lives, we should be living in engaging, enriched environments and be able to drive to our hearts’ content. We’re promised that when we are all in fully autonomous cars we will definitely be safer, but if driving makes the rats emotionally more happy and less stressed out, maybe we’re seeking a replacement for something many of us don’t want to give up in the first place.

With or without Froot Loops.
