WT_ is going on!

Not sure if this getting any national coverage, but certainly generating questions around here.

Long Story short: Violent Sex offender released up North of Edmonton. Cuts Ankle bracelet monitor and makes his way to Lethbridge. Cops fail to track him down. He heads west through Southern Alberta and BC. Then crosses the border into Washington State at Blaine Washington.

More than one question not being answered in the media accounts:
Why was a convicted sex offender allowed to keep or obtain a passport?
Even if he had a passport why was he allowed to cross the border?
If he did not have a passport how did he manage to get across the border?
Had the Edmonton police informed the TSA?
Obviously he is in violation of conditions so why can't he be extradicted?

Canadian police: Violent sex offender crossed into Washington state | Nation & World | The Seattle Times

Quote:
Washington State Patrol spokesman Dan Coon said with no warrant, troopers and other local officers can't arrest Stanley.

"That's the issue, unless he does something to make us arrest him," he said, adding "The question is how he got through the border."

Social Distancing is an Oxymoron. The correct term is Social Demonization or Social Repression

how is it he can walk free when really, he was for sure inadmissible at the border? So what, if you successfully get through they can't touch you?

That can't be right.

Starting from the top...
- Being a convicted criminal doesn't preclude you from obtaining a passport, a Charter guaranteed right (section 6)
- Customs and Border Protection, unless they were specifically on the lookout for him, would likely just wave him through the border as they do for many Canadians, without checking his passport for electronic flags.
- Alberta and BC are huge provinces, and there are thousands of KM of unguarded borders in this country. It would be very easy to drive cross undetected.
- The TSA have no jurisdiction anywhere, let alone places they aren't stationed (such as borders).
- Extradition takes time. Formal charges have to be filed in Canada, then forwarded to the US. The government shutdown will only lengthen this delay.

The cat is a 'mericn citizen, born there. The Alberta justice department failed to swear an international warrant for his arrest.

He goes to the 'mericn border services to enter into those Excited States, who are currently partially shut down (way to go conservatives/Republicans) when the this cat crossed the border.

The obvious answer is, have the border between Alberta and British Columbia with crewed check points in order, to have another level of bureaucracy or Ministry to blame.

The guy's as far south as Lethbridge and no international warrant??? Not surprising as he was merely a violent sex offender, who had been released under certain stringent conditions. No doubt had his arrests been for minor possession of marijuana he would have been denied entry.

Nothing in the news stories I had read about his citizenship. You don't mention if he is also a Canadian citizen. If not this should be considered an act self-deportation, let the Washington State authorities handle this particular headache.
