No special area, happened on many threads, but it is occurring much less frequently now, almost completely gone.

Hello there,

So I got feedback from the techs regarding this.
Unfortunately, the plugin wasn't compatible with this forum.
The only tedious workaround is to copy and paste the draft elsewhere such as Google keep or a note.

Very sorry for the inconvenience,

Ed

Thanks for checking.

But it seems to me that the vBulletin programming team seems to be rather inconsistent with their compatibilities and features especially when the future works with other similar forms using the same vBulletin software. One would think they could create a plug-in for the various versions, especially for such widely used commercial software.

Oh well, I guess they're happy.

EDIT:
Actually, reading through some of the vBulletin forums, it seems that the " auto-save" is a feature of their version 4 software. And with improvements later on...
Equipped with proverbial sledgehammers, the vBulletin development team dove deep into the code-base and emerged victorious, ripping out the old editor which prevented future extendability, customizations and the much requested functionality such as auto-save.
(BOLD mine...)

I just thought I would mention the fact it does seem to be available, but I don't know how various forms work or why they would be so different.

BTW:
I came across this custom bit for vBulletin v. 3.8, but have no idea how to implement it or get it working:

An auto-save feature was recently added to vB4, so I figured it would be nice if we vB3 users could also get something similar

While this this isn't a server-side solution, I think that it's still pretty solid, as it relies on the localStorage system in your browser, which is supported by Safari, FF 3.5+, Opera, Chrome, and IE8+.

I have tested this on FF6, the latest Safari and Chrome, and IE9. I wrote it with IE8 in mind, but haven't tested IE8 as my forum skin doesn't support it (yup, it's a terrible browser).

For now, I am marking this as a beta release until we're sure it works in all browsers that support localStorage and there aren't any outstanding bugs.

Interesting thought I thought, at least there seemed to be a solution... IF one could get it installed and working... ;-)
