Just a question to get some peoples opions on what my advantage is to getting a G4 processor for my BW G3?

I cannot afford to get a real G4 so this is my cheeper solution. Is it worth me doing so and why.

Also what advantages will I have or dissadvantages.

I have a BW G3 Rev A overclocked to 450mhz. Looking to get a G4 Card running at 450mhz.

I recently installed a ZIF G4/500 in my mom's B&W G3/350 and have seen a remarkable performance increase. Can't say what improvement you'll see if you've already overclocked to 450.

Hi there!

If you own a B+W G3 and are running software that is G4 optimized and/or OSX, you should notice quite an improvement by installing a G4 ZIF. Check out the link below to a G4/500mhz ZIF I recently sold to Mississauga. Alec's a great guy to deal with, BTW. Scroll down to the replies that "MacDoc" posted regarding the improved performance G4 ZIFs can provide.

This link may take a minute to load. If (after reviewing your options), you are still interested, I have another XLR8 G4/500mhz ZIF available. Here's the new link:

Good luck in whatever decision you make.

First a G4 is a chip not a model - by putting a G4 your are getting a "real" G4 that is entirely indistiguishable from a Yikes G4.

There are other model design features such a s a faster ata bus in newer boxes.

The G4 handles all processes faster overall even without a fully enabled Altivec program.

Worthwhile bump. :D

Thanks guys for all the advice now to come up with some cash to do this....I figured this is my best solution (cheapest) to getting a G4 processor.

What is the difference in getting a "pulled" G4 and one from the various add-on vendors (ie. Sonnet, XLR8, etc.)?
