: Jaguar Audio Anomaly

I've been having an odd little non-lethal problem on my PowerBook. It's so undisturbing that I can't actually recall how long it's been going on.

Anyhow.

The problem is that the audio stereo balance (set in the Sound System Preferences pane) seems to be randomly choosing how I listen to music. It will move the balance to the left or right by about an eighth of the length of the slider bar - not too drastic, but just enough for me to question my hearing. It's rather disconcerting to suddenly find yourself hearing more from one ear than another.

I have Apple's OS X Support page open in another tab (Safari  ), but it is somewhat less intuitive than I would desire from a company that perfected the concept of "user joy" (http://www.apple.com/ipod).

And let's not even begin to talk about the mistake that is Help Viewer.

Anyhow, any thoughts, amigos? It's more of a bother than a problem, so please direct your collective computer-first-aid brilliance towards that person with the Lombard that smells like burning before you deign to aid me. I'll survive. I just can't promise that I won't be cranky. tongue.gif

P.S. I was surprised with a 30 gig iPod today. Please, raise your hand if you too have felt your heart stop, brain grind to a halt, and kidneys explode all at once too.

P.P.S. In case anyone is interested, my brand new friend has been dubbed Galatea. Dulcimer (5GB/Nov01) goes into semi-retirement, to live out the rest of his days in the caring hands of my dear mother.

Galatea is someone a fan of the movie "Bi-Centenial Man" ?
OR
an astronomy buff?

Although Bicentennial Man did occur to me afterwards, I was actually just in tears (http://www.hellenism.net/eng/galatea.htm) over the aptness of it all (http://www.loggia.com/myth/galatea.html) - I ran upon the name while reading about the Illiad, thought it lovely, and used it. And then researched its true background. Fate has a sense of humour...especially the 'ivory' bit...

Come on. Be honest. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you haven't kissed your iPod at least once. And that you haven't wished it would spring to life. Or have I said too much? graemlins/heybaby.gif
