I've read somewhere that the iPod Touch should have the capability to act as an FM transmitter with either the present or upcoming operating system. Does anyone know if this holds true? Would be nice for those who don't have the built in jacks on the car stereo.

I don't think that's the case .. I think they will have/already have an FM receiver in them (which I think was mandated in the US that all of these types of devices will require one ... why? Who knows..)

Apologies if I've misunderstood but I believe the iPod Touch and the iPhone do indeed contain an FM Transciever chip... it's used for the Nike app however, it isn't available for either receiving FM broadcast signals or for transmitting music to an FM radio.

if it does have it then that begs a question why not have a fm radio app with out the need for wifi or use of data?
