: New Apple TV doesn't update play count...

This is starting to get on my nerves. I use the AppleTV almost exclusively with content already on my computer. It can do this ok, not as gracefully as the original AppleTV but it works.

Almost immediately though I noticed that it wasn't updating the playcount / date last played. While it isn't life-or-death data, I do use it since it is available. I like to be able to see what my 'favorites' are based on the playcount. Or what I might like to watch as it hasn't been viewed in ages.

After having the new ATV for about a month now, I find I'm getting more frustrated with it. Needing to have iTunes running on my computer means that if I come home from work and immediately go flop on the sofa for some vegetative tv viewing, I can't watch anything - gotta get up, wake up the computer, log on, run iTunes... I know, wah wah wah, but I don't have to do that with the 1st gen ATV.

And now the playcounts - I've got a growing catalogue of tv shows that continue to show up as 'new' because for some retarded reason, the AppleTV doesn't tell iTunes that you've watched it. Or iTunes doesn't acknowledge that it's been viewed, even though it's been streamed to the ATV.

And finally the Remote app on the iPhone... works brilliant with the old AppleTV. On the new Apple TV I have found it frequently unresponsive, the connection is erratic, and sometimes you press a control two or three times with nothing happening, then suddenly it reacts to all the taps at once and you end up somewhere you didn't want to be.

After a month's use, I'm wondering if I should have just grabbed a 1st gen Apple TV at the reduced price. For me, the new one is smaller and cheaper, but that's all it has going for it right now...

Sorry for the rant - just reading the point where I'm fed up with the thing.

edited to correct the remote app part of the rant. turns out you can browse the content from the remote app, it's just so unresponsive that I didn't know that actually worked till just now.
