When? I really want to see a 30" iMac.

27" iMac's text is too small, they need that 2560 pixel screen on a 30" screen instead of a 27" screen.

I think they will release a 30" iMac at about the same time they release a 27" MacBook Pro.

i already have a prototype of the 27" macbook pro. it really is something to see. it comes complete with a sherpa and a llama to help you carry it.

the screen is amazing, but i cant get the smell of llama crap out of my apartment.

its a real issue.

If you think the text is too small on a 27-inch iMac... you need new glasses. :)

Besides, I'm sitting in front of one, and it's already big. A 30-inch system would ether be too wide or too tall!

the 30" imac will be released immediately after the 12" ipad.

I was hoping they would skip the 30" and go straight to 50" or bigger. I can make a better sale to the wife over multi function. Also, it should really make me bugged eyed since I sit about 36" away from the damn thing.:clap:beejacon

I was pleasantly surprised by the 27 inch iMac for the price they have it at now.
I would be glad to have a 30 inch iMac in a couple of years to upgrade from a 24 I have now. Im sure they will still offer a 21 or 22 inch model as well.
In 1999 or 2000, a prosumer may have opted for the Powermac, now the 27 inch iMac is a terrific value and capable for most prosumer tasks.

I just picked up a 17" macbook pro yesterday and it was more expensive than the 27" imac, it was a tough call. The 30" imac sure would be nice!

Dell just released the U3011 LCD today, looks like 30" LCDs will live on. Perhaps we will see a 30" iMac in the near future.

Thread back from the dead!

If the displays on the iMacs were to get larger, more and more people would routinely get the false idea that it means things are easier to see; I have far too many customers at first opt for the 27" iMac, falsely believing that such a big screen is good for those with failing vision - except when the resolution is at its native size, they then realize they can't actually see anything at all, print and text wise. And dumbing down the resolution is just as bad when the image becomes fuzzy.

But for those that can make good, productive use of such a large display... :)

They need to make a "older eyes" edition where it's a 27" monitor, but with the resolution of a 17" monitor. :)

+1 Chas, and for some users, even if set to such a resolution, that they don't have to keep doing a command+click, click, click multiple times or even using any other OS or application specific text expansive options to read some tiny print text email message or the tiny text on many a web site.

I doubt we're gonna see a 30" iMac withing the next 12-18 months. Why? Cause Apple just yesterday added the 27" Cinema Display to the Apple Store. No 30" replacement, no 24" still available. Apple obviously thinks the 27" is the sweet spot and it just updated the 27" iMacs a month or so ago to say as much.
