: Data recover/rescue

Have a dead HD.

Won't mount. Tried Drive Genius, Disk Warrior, Disk Utility. Tried freezing it, multiple ports, restarting, multiple Macs, with nothing else connected to the Mac, etc.

Looking at more advanced data recovery.

I'm in the Ottawa area and was wondering if anyone know of a data recovery service along the lines of actually taking apart the HD and accessing the disks (platters?) to recover data. It's for a client and I want to be able to give him all the options. I understand it can be quite expensive. Just wondering if that service is available locally (iFixit, Carbon Computing, Apple Store, etc.) and how much (ballpark) it might cost.

There have been some successes reported by freezing the drive. I do not remember the exact details and can't find the threads at the moment.

Hopefully someone will chime in and redirect you here.

Also,

When the dead HD is connected via USB:

I open Disk Warrior, it gets stuck "searching for disks..."
I restart and it stalls on the grey opening screen (no spinning wheel)
Drive Genius simply doesn't recogize it, and doesn't quit properly.

At work we use CBL Tech Recovery services. They are in Markham I believe.
