Al bit of a buggy nuisance I'm having with a Pastor file in Snow Leopard which never happened in Leopard. A Pastor file (for storing password numbers, etc.) keeps reverting to a Text Edit file. In order to open it, I have to do an "Open With" each time. I have done a "Get Info" and changed the App to open it with (I haven't clicked "Change All" since that may change all my Text Edit files to Pastor files). How might I get this change to stick?

You answered your own question. You must do a "change all" to get the change to stick.

Do Pastor files have an extension of "txt" or "rtf" or "doc"? If they do, then you're right to be concerned. If they don't, then your concern is unfounded.

The Pastor file has no extension. I just selected Change All and we'll see how that goes.

The Pastor file DOES have an extension. All legitimate Mac OS X files have extensions. You may need to uncheck the "hide extension" box in Get Info on the file.

If Pastor genuinely generates files that have NO extension, that's one stupid-ass developer you're dealing with, and the reason why TextEdit is the fallback default.

Just did a Get Info and see that the Hide Extension is grayed out. Hence, no extension. Now, in the Preview, it's shows as TXT, but I don't believe that's the extension, at least not as far as I can see.

Looks like this may explain some of the behavior.
