: Whatever happened to Janus?

I recall some Microsoft hype about Janus technology wherein a person would be able to carry subscription service music on an MP3 player. Is this still in the works or is it another vaporware story?

I don't pay close attention to the various online music wars, but since MS has licensed WM9/10 with DRM technology to most mp3 player manufacturers, and their arch-rival Real Networks is the only one I know with a subscription service, I would assume it was FUD to combat Real and stall users till MS got their act together with the licensing and got the music industry to buy into Microsoft's DRM, which they since have done.

Janus is built into Windows Media 10 (for Windows) so the software is out there, I just don't know anyone who uses it.
