: Time Machine Files

I haven't done much with Time Machine until recently, allowing it to backup my Powermac G5 to my external drive. As of late, I have been using that Time Machine backup to restore some files on my MacBook. Is it a bad habit to manually drag files and apps from a Time Machine directory on my external drive? As far as I understand, manually dragging should be no problem unless someone else says otherwise.

I'd say it's a bad habit, because Time machine has a mechanism already in place for the recovery and restoration of files -- it's called Time Machine.

I don't know enough about Time Machine to say this authoritatively, this is just my gut talking. Apple doesn't like it when you mess with The Plan. :)

We're just talking about navigating through Time Machine folder structure and dragging out a few files- not deleting. Not sure if my MacBook Time Machine will work with the one made from my G5.
