Studio Exec One: "We need a well-known actor who's down on the skids right now and can be had for real cheap and will do anything."

Studio Exec Two: "I'll check the Dell website ..."

Come on, now.... I remember about 10 years ago Apple had Motley Crue fly in to Apple's HQ and talk about how much they love their computers. ;)

If Apple called Motley Crew back to HQ today, then they would be in the same league as Dell...:D

It's really quite sad.

You can see it in Burt's eyes. He's collecting a paycheque. A late night informercial has more dignity.

Reminds me of the new WoW Ads

World of Warcraft Mr. T Commercial TV ad (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bqJE5TH5jhc)

World of Warcraft 'William Shatner' ad (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3NUbAF6MsfU)

Shatner must have been passed up for the Dell ...

WoW probably shelled out big bucks for Shatner. Shatner has created a universe of unbelievable stardom around himself. 'Boston Legal', PriceLine, All Bran? (Fibre is your friend), and so much more. Hasselhoff should be taking notes.

This doesn't surprise me much, after all I don't think Dell's goal was ever to build a reputation based on high quality products. For example my ex-gf's Dell was overclocked at the factory and to compensate for the additional heat, they put a plastic hood with a case fan at the end to vent the extra heat. Basically it seems to me they were looking for the cheapest way to sell a so called "faster" product without actually improving the hardware. Guess it was their clever way of offering such a "good deal" for the price point

Their goal anyway is simply to move machines in anyway they can and generally that means appealing to the average consumer through mediums they understand, such as pop culture icons, rather than through mediums they don't understand, such as computer specs. I spoke to a co-worker about her recent purchase of a laptop, the most she could tell me was that it was a Toshiba, beyond that she knew nothing about processor speed, RAM, HD size etc. Unfortunately that's your average consumer, and that's who these adds are aimed at. They want to attract customer through any appealing manner, regardless if it applies to their product. I guess I can applaud Dell for knowing their consumer base, even if the ads are laaaaaammmeee!!!!

guess it's obvious to point it out, but I'll take any opportunity to trash Dell... not their biggest fan...
