: Photo location/studio lighting

Hey folks,

I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm about to embark on a venture where I would require to photograph a lot of "stuff" for a project. Usually I borrow my friend's lighting equipment, but he moved to Vancouver last month (grrrr). I've also rented lighting for location shoots a few times, but this could be weeks of photography... so renting is not feasible and buying a new kit is crazy expensive.

I was wondering if anyone knew someone or someplace that sold used lighting package. Preferably somewhere int he GTA, but I'm not that picky at this point. I'm not looking for anything too complicated:

</font> 3-4 stobes w/ modeling lights</font> 500-900 Watts Total</font> Stands</font> Umbrellas</font> Sync cords</font> Softboxes?</font> Barndoors, gels?</font> Snoot?</font>
(The question mark stuff I'm not looking for right away, but would be curious.)

I guess while I'm at it. I'm also looking for Background supports and a black and a white muslin backdrops.

Any help anyone can provide will be kindly rewarded, somehow.

Call Walter Borchenko at Vistek. Maybe he's still handling used sales?

The Canadian Photographic Historical Society has their annual spring fair at the end of the month. It's usually at the Coffee Time Soccer Center (Hwy 7 and ?, in the west end).

This is a big fair with all kinds of used photo goodies for sale. There is usually some good deals on lighting equipment.

Do a google search. There should be ads in the Toronto Star classified section too with $2 entry discounts.

Wow! That looks like an interesting way to spend a few hours even if you're not in the market for anything.
Thanks for the tip.

Man! That looks perfect... if I was in the city that weekend. Moh!

Vistek was a dead end. No lighting. So the search goes on.

Here's a few places to try out.

khb photografix (http://www.khbphotografix.com/)

filmplus photo supply (http://www.filmplus.ca/)

You can also check out Henry's outlet store on Queen St. for some used equipment. They have a used equipment section on their site.

henry's used (http://www.henrys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PageDisplay?dest=frames.jsp&currency=CAD&storeId=10001)

Hope that helps. Good luck.
