I am about to buy a G4 ibook and am considering an airport card.
When travelling ,where can I get internet access ?
If I drop into a university campus can I get free access ? I wouldn't be a student , just a visitor.
I did a search on this site , but nothing came up to answer my question.

You'd be surprised at how many non-secure wireless networks there are. I know it's considered bad etiquette to use them (and possibly illegal), but sometimes it's just too damn tempting...

I've been mapping them out in Cowtown, they are everywhere.

If you're looking at buying the 14" iBook look into the high-end.

It's 1.2 Ghz vs the 1.0 Ghz Lowe-end 14"
60 GB HD vs the 40 GB
and it has the Airport card built-in.

And it's only $300 more (so basically you get an extra 200 MHz and an extra 20 GB of HD for $150 after adding the Airport Extreme card.

Also I recommend getting one special ordered with BlueTooth. You may not need it now, but who knows what kind of cool BlueTooth stuff may come out within the life of your new machine. It's always better to have more connectivity than less. At present you can not add BlueTooth to a Mac after the fact unless you buy a USB dongle.
