hello ehmac!

my Samsung SP2514N 250GB external hard drive does not auto mount on my 1Ghz G4 eMac running OSX 10.2.8

Disk Utility recognizes the drive, and so does the System Profiler.

What can I do to make it run?

I have been using it right out of the box, with my 1.33ghz iBook with no problem.

best.

Maybe you should upgrade your eMac OS to Panther or Tiger. What is the system installed in your iBook ?

my eMac is running Jaguar. my iBook is running tiger.
it seems just not to find the mount point.
I opened up disk utilities, and labeled the volume, which erased the data which was on it, but made it work.
it also worked when plugged into my iBook.
but when i plugged it into a PC, it would not be recognized, unless it was formatted for PC.

My question now is - is there any way to label the volume without having to erase the data?

best.

In all honesty.. for your windows machine, you should look into a program called MacDrive. It's worth it's weight in gold. :)

I have run into the same problem. The drive has to be formatted in Fat32 for both OSs to recognize it. Even after doing that I still had difficulty on the Mac side, go figure. Thanks Vexel, I will have a look at MacDrive.
