Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice....what is a good webcam to buy for an Ibook g4 (12")? I know the Isight is good, but i'm looking for something cheaper..also...I'm wondering what chat program works best for mac to win users? my g/f won't switch from her Sony, so we are using Yahoo messenger to view her webcam..but its sooo slow...is there a program (similar to yahoo messenger and msn messenger) where we can both use webcams and chat? I wish msn would allow us to view webcams..but so far, I can't...what do you guys/girls think? And oh, with the Ichat...how do I use it? can i only chat with ppl who are Ichat users? is there a way for Ichat to work with msn messenger?

I have not used it, but amsn is supposed to support webcam chat with msn users on windows.

http://amsn.sourceforge.net/

you might want to give that a try.

I've heard amsn is far from perfect :)

Sightspeed so far has worked quite well for a few of my customers...

You can also use Jabber to enable an MSN account with iChat.

As far as which camera, the iSight rocks! If you want something cheaper, I've sold the Logitech Quickcam 4000 quite a few times but the iSight is definitely worth the extra $$$ if you can save up.

iChat on the Mac, AIM on the PC. Sign-up for free AIM accounts at AOL.

You'll need the third-party USB webcam drivers for the Mac. Search on this forum for links and additional info.

Does this still work? I have been getting reports from people that say since the 10.4.3 (I think) update, they can't get it to work anymore.

I haven't heard anything otherwise but you'd know more than me... I'll try it tonight if I get time. It's been a little while (since before 10.4.3) since I've done it.

I've had 3 people tell that it doesn't work anymore. Could be a coincidence but I kinda figured there must be a problem. They get the "user didn't respond" message all the time. They all say that iChat - iChat still works and there is no firewall that could be causing a problem.

I don't have any PC buddies with web cams to try it with.

Honestly, get an iSight. You'll be happy you saved the extra money and got a really good camera.

Other than that.. I posted in another thread here (https://www.ehmac.ca/showpost.php?p=338575&postcount=4) about different chat programs which work from Mac to PC. My opinions still stand.. so I thought I would just post the link. :)
