Very cool. A bit thick. But very cool

Thats cool... but a bit ghetto..
Why go through all that trouble when you can just buy a ibook ..

The PowerBook beside the mini mod is a 15" model. I am able to use my imagination, but it would have been interesting beside a 12" PowerBook or iBook.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but that is the dumbest thing I've ever seen (or close to it anyway). I wonder what this guy has for a day-job.

I don't even see a point to this. As was said previously, why not just get an iBook. This thing is hideous

It is very weird. I don't get it. What's the little keyboard from, a palm desktop or something. :yikes:

Is he supposed to be typing in this photo?

I suppose if he had fun doing it. I don't think Apple will be knocking at his door for a new engineer position or anything anytime soon. :lmao:

Well, I think that being creative must have some sort of inherent pleasure. Like art. Like every mid-life crisis that picks up his son's electric guitar, for example. It's somehow much more pleasurable to make something instead of buying a pre-made product. Emulation, maybe, of Apple's design process?

I donno. What's the point of anything, really....

Well if he found happiness from it, I envy his abilities :) He is genius in that case.

Genius ... don't think so, nothing too complex about what he did. Definitely fugly and well useless, can you imagine typing on that thing - tons of better keyboard options than that. Don't think Jonny Ives will be knocking on his door any time soon...

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I meant he is genius to find happiness from what he has created (not that he is genius to create what he did). I said this based on previous comments. :D

My apologies ... I did mis-read you. I agree, anything that gives one pleasure whether it's taking a beautiful Mac and uglifying it or otherwise is indeed awesome. One learns a lot in the process ...

I see some merit in this.. it just needs a little more imagination.

I'd like to install that mini in my trunk.. connect it to my stereo.. use salling clicker to control it... and mount a smaller screen on my dash or something?

That could be pretty cool. I could fit the teeny keyboard somewhere stealthy.
Use airport for an "anywhere" connection.

If it's in the trunk, I could care less what it looks like.
My CD changer doesn't look much better!

If you're unable to appreciate something beyond it's shiny surface then you have missed the point.

Before you dismiss his form factor - check out this early Apple homebrew.

I like the javascript/css bug on his page with the mouseovers.
it makes the pics "bounce" at least for me in firefox ;)

humm.. woodgrain iPod... I like it.

mount in trunk, yes. I would want something similar to that for a box there aswell. however, I wouldn't plan running it much in the winter. the mini would have a hell of a lot lower op. temp. than the cd changer. I think that why most mount the mini in the dash, like I plan on.

Connect the mini to a "block heater" - done! :D

I thought this was a very impressive mod. And a Mac mini is quite thick compared to a laptop, so whatever the guy made he was limited in what he could do.

As for the "he could have bought an iBook" post: this guy wanted to make something on his own. Stop worrying about how it looks and just admire what he did.

And ice_hackey is right: the Apple 1 was also ugly as sin.
