: DVD archiving

Hi there, i've got MacTheRipper for copying a DVD to my computer, but i've no idea how to put it back onto another DVD disk; DVDs in my family tend to get beaten up, to my great dismay, so i want to keep my store-bought copies in my room on a shelf, and leave the burned backups in the family room for daily use.

MacTheRipper makes a 7+ gig folder of video and audio files from one DVD. how the heck do i get that into 4.5 gigs of DVD disk? lol.

Sounds like that particular movie is on a dual layer disk and you have a single layer disk.

I'm no expert though - wait for a second opinion :)

The program DVD2oneX is absolutely wonderful! I use it all the time to compress my DVDs (running out of hard drive space  ) and it even offers the specific option to compress the whole disk (or just main feature if you want) to the exact size of a regular DVD! Its awesome...I use MTR as well to rip the DVDs then compress them with DVD2oneX and its working great.

I will admit that I downloaded it first (illegally...with a serial number included) but it was just to TEST IT (Really! If it sucked I would have deleted it). The shareware trial copy didn't leave me certain that it was going to work for my purposes so I downloaded a full illegal copy...I was so happy with how well (and quickly) it worked that I bought a legal copy :D

Doesn't ffmpegX do this as well? And for a fraction of the price of DVD2One ($15 USD compared with $39 USD)

I've heard that ffmpegx is a much more difficult interface (I could be wrong though) and is less user friendly. There was a thread about it maybe a week ago if I could only find it...

Here are two really good threads about this:

They are from only a few weeks ago so they're current :D
