No disaster, but here are a couple of puzzlers. If you have any hints...

1- A graphite G4 at work. Frequent crashes. Will NOT boot from Disk Warrior CD. (Can see it OK, but nothing happens past the grey apple.) TechTool Pro 4 booted OK but found no probs.

Incidentally, I have a few Apple Hardware test CDs but they all say they are not for this machine. Any sources for the right cd?

2- A friend came over with his 12 PB. We thought it might be fun to try out the firewire target mode. Either machine would start up fine as target, but neither would be visible on the other's desktop. I'm on a G4/500. Both of us running Jaguar. The cable is OK. What the....

Which OS are you running on the G4?
I just read that OS 10.3 is more "picky" about the type of RAM than OS 10.2 or OS 9.
Frequent crashes may point to a RAM problem and Tech Tool may not pick that up.

RAM was my original guess too.

But as it turned out, the backup copy of DW was the culprit. I haven't figured it out exactly. It may be slightly damaged or just a poor quality blank. But I dug up my original and it booted fine.

You'd think that a drive which can read DVDs would have no probems reading a few bad sectors on a CD. Oh well....

Still in the dark about the target mode thing though...
