: CANADIAN MAC NEWS - New Apple Store in Toronto!

May 29th, 2003, 10:12 AM
O.k., so maybe not an "official" Apple store, but its the closest thing to it us Canucks might see for awhile! I'm talking about the grand opening of the huge new 15,000 square foot location of Carbon Computing's (http://www.carbonation.com/), new Mac store (http://www.carbonation.com/directions/772.html) on Queen Street (http://www.carbonation.com/directions/index.html) in Toronto, Ontario.

From noon today, May 29th until Sunday, June 1st, Carbon will be holding a Grand Opening Sale (http://www.carbonation.com/). You can download their grand opening flyer from their site where they have some great specials and door crashers. They'll also be featuring lots of prizes (including and iPod), a kids area, and demos on Apple's iLife software. Carbon is "all things Mac" but also specializes in digital audio and video and has these various solutions set up in the store to provide hands on demonstrations.

ehMac will be attending the exciting grand opening and will be providing full coverage and photos later in the day!

How will people recognize you, Mayor? Will you wear the red and white toque?

I happened to go by the space on my way home from work. It really is huge (and by yesterday at 5 pm, the hadn't really started moving in so let's hope they're ready for the Grand Opening today).

Anyway, this is really great for Carbon and for the Toronto Mac community in general. I'm sure Carbon's hoping that there really isn't an official Apple Store here any time soon. Personally, I think Torontonians are already very well served, so don't think Apple needs to open here.

I may take a stroll there Saturday afternoon.
I see from the flyer that they are having a demo of the Wacom Cintiq.
Hope they don't mind a little drool over it. graemlins/rofl.gif

Going to check out the store today around noon. I'm hoping to have a potential "switcher" in tow.

This could be fun. :D

Can you imagine owning that 23" screen AND the Cintiq? :D

I'll give Carbon credit for trying. The store is nicely laid out. It's still NOT an Apple store though. I feel TO could still use one of those. Not for us die-hard mac users but for those who haven't had any exposure to Apple products.
As good as Carbon is, the location is terrible for this purpose. Toronto needs an Apple store in a high profile area. Queen and Broadview is NOT high profile.

Checked it out today. Awesome store. Also the first time I ever saw a HD 23' screen, and HOLY APPLE ALIVE THAT THING IT HUGE! I was blown away. Immensly cool. That and the Wacom Cintiq :D

You're right, it's not an Apple Store. I guess put one of those in a high-end suburban mall that I'd never go to. With the hight Canadian $ Macs might even catch on a bit more here.

For many people, its much better than an Apple store. Especially for more high-end users into pro video and pro audio. Carbon will have FULL complete demo stations set up for these solutions with the staff to give demonstrations. You won't find that kind of thing at an Apple Store. They also have a nice setup for retail consumers and kids etc... Keep in mind they just moved in too. ;)
