Good morning all,

I am wondering if any one can direct me to some:

Motion Activated Web Cam Surveillance Software?

I would like to set up a webcam to monitor my drive way at night. I have had a number of incidents out there and I would like to have some sort of security camera set up. Is there some good MAC software that can turn my web Cam into a motion activated recording security system?

Thanks in advance,

I don't know if it will work with your webcam, but if you have a bunch of old iPhones or Android phones / tablets that you no longer use, I can recommend ManyThing (http://manything.com) (stupid name unrelated to what it actually does). I have used it for years to keep an eye on our house when we're out of the country... even paid for extra cloud storage for when we were away an extended period. Remote viewing, automatic motion-activated recording, clip downloads, etc.

Thanks for the information.
It seems strange to me that with all the software out there I can't make my MAC operate like a motion-detecting security cam. Is this really the case. There seem to be some web based apps out there but none that simply will record people entering my office when Im not there. Frustrating that my $5,000 dollar computer cant do something as seemingly simple as this. Is there really no way of doing this?

Help me Obewan, your ,my only hope.

The price is pretty irrelevant if no one writes the software to do what you're asking.

There was an app called AirBeam Pro that worked well, I'm not sure when it was last updated though. Should be in the App Store.

Thanks for that info. I will look into it. Apparently there is also a program called Motion detector from Senstic . Both are available in the apps store.
Thanks again everyone, you guys never let me down.

Cheers

I would like to set up a webcam to monitor my drive way at night.

I would be very surprised if ecamm didn't have some software that would do what you want.

I used to use some of their old software with a remote webcam and there were options for motion detection as well as infrared.

One was iGlasses.app and darned if I can remember what the other software program was.

You could als try searching on 'security' and 'motion detection' here as well as google.:

PS: the ecamm software I used even worked with an old USB remote webcam that wasn't even supposed to work with a Mac!!!

EDIT:
Here are some google hit suggestions with a search on :
mac video security and motion detection

How serious are these driveway incidents?

Gee, I dare say that is seems that you didn't do very much in the way of web searching.

And you don't need to even tie up your expensive Mac computer when there are some pretty reasonably priced self recording security devices to do what you want.

Gosh, even Costco sells a bunch of them and you could take your choice:

Some even have computer communication interface and support.

Or how about any of these???:

I was wondering the same thing, and possibly something that should be reported to the police, at least so they have something on file.

My driveway incidents are almost always just people walking by activating the motion detector lights. Sometimes drunks staggering home from the local who seem fascinated that the lights are upon them.

My security cam from Costco monitors what is inside the garage and no harm has ever come to anything I own in the past 30 years, most of those years without anything more than motion lights.

Poor drunks getting shocked and dazzled by the bright lights no doubt.

We just got the deer going by that would turn them on years ago, so we finally just turned them off. Now they have to nibble away and destroy our garden plantings in the darkness. ;-)
