Hello,

Just bought a used MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, Early 2013). Did not check sufficiently and the right speaker does not work.

Googled it and did everything I could find, software wise, to try and fix (checked all relevant and obvious settings, including Audio MIDI setup, Reset PRAM and SMC, reset coreaudiod through the Terminal app).

Just wondering if there's anything I missed and if the only possible source of the problem left has to be a hardware issue ??

Any ideas and suggestions welcome !

Thanks.

Have you checked out the ifixit.com site for any possible suggestions???

Have you tried connecting some good working external speakers or earphones??

Does not look like a big deal to replace the speaker, looks surprisingly easy. Not sure what year the MacBook Pro in the video is, but generally older is easier to work on till Apple decides you should not be mucking about inside. If all the software stuff did not work then it is most likely a hardware issue. Did a quick google search for MacBook Pro speakers and looks like they go for around $30.

Have you checked to see if anything is lodged in the earphone port

That video states right at the beginning the laptop is a 2013, but a 13", not a 15" which may be different??
