: Apple ID password, multiple devices, 2 Step Verification

Got a buddy who is the IT manager here at our local hospital. There are 30 iPads here and other places across the Province, all on the same Apple account. Someone attempted guessing the Apple ID password too many times. A verification code was sent to one of the 30 devices but my buddy doesn’t know which one. All are now locked out of the Apple account. What can advise my friend to do next? Call Apple? Or is there an easier way? Yes, he’s the IT specialist and should be able to resolve this, but they are just getting to know how Apple devices function in a corporate environment and he’s not too pleased with Apple at the moment. Any ideas?

Assuming he is the one who set up the account originally, I would try going online and accessing the account through iCloud. Follow the instructions there to reset the password and choose the notification number Apple sends go directly to his phone number as a text or directly to his email, then enter the number, change the password and that should do it. That ensures the key number comes to him and no other machine.

While that should solve the issue, I would suggest he call Apple support and ask how he can prevent this from happening in the future. Apple has enough iPads in schools that surely they have devised a proper way to set them up.

Thanks. I will pass that on.

I have about 10-12 devices that share an iCloud account. When I have had to do something with a password and the 2 step verification came up all the devices were alerted and I could select which one to use to get the passcode.

I shared this iCloud account initially to share contacts, bookmarks and calendars. Much easier ways now with google to share and still use Apple products. The 2 step verification can be a real headache at times.

Perhaps this story will help:

DAD GETS LOCKED OUT OF IPAD FOR 48 YEARS AFTER TODDLER TYPES INCORRECT PASSWORD (https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/dad-locked-out-ipad-toddler-incorrect-password-a8859891.html)
A notification says the dad has been locked out of his device for 25, 536, 442 minutes

"If the data has been backed up, Apple advises users to connect their device to a computer, open iTunes, and opt to restore it. Once this has taken place, the user can then set up and use their device again."

But if he wants to find it without having to wipe the device, well... that's going to be a pain.
