Rant Warning!

I created a Keynote presentation on my Mac and wanted to present it on my iPad. Should be simple right?

Good God, it was a 3 hour exercise in utter frustration.

I followed this: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph3497?locale=en_US

First, I tried to use the iTunes method to share the file. Keynote just didn't show up in iTunes no matter what I tried (synch, update, etc.).

Then, I tried to email the file between the devices. That sort of worked but the Keynote did not open in iOS Keynote. It opened in some kind of viewer app.

Then I tried sharing via iCloud. The file shows up in iCloud but when I try to open it on my iPad, I get a message that I need to turn on iCloud sharing in my Keynote settings. I checked 5 times and it's on. But the message keeps on keeping on.

Finally, I thought I'd try to share it via Google Drive. The file is there but it's greyed out.

I think, at the root of it, it's all due to incompatibility of Keynote versions. This is the same sort of frustration that caused me to abandon Pages.

"The versions are sort of but not really compatible. We don't really give you any path for converting the various versions. And we certainly don't offer any message to let you know that's the problem"

So right now, I'm in the midst of recreating the entire presentation. USING GOOGLE SLIDES.

That might be the absolute last time I try using an Apple desktop app. What happened to the Apple I used to know and love? Sigh.

Email is the simplest in my opinion. Looks like you missed a step though. Sure just clicking on it will open it, but ass you said in a preview not in keynote. There should be a square box with an arrow pointing up, click that. You will have a new control panel open, mine says "copy to keynote". Clicking that moves your keynote presentations to the actual keynote app.

This is a blank keynote presentation on my iPhone, this is the preview

Clicking the circled box arrow above brings up this menu. Click the "open in keynote" and you are all set

Thank you wonderings, that did work. I should have asked here first before futzing with it for 3 hours.

I'm still miffed that the iCloud method (which is supposed allow seamless sharing) refuses to work with error messages that are completely unhelpful.

My apologies for being so salty today.

I have no had an issue with iCloud and it did get easier saving it to an iCloud drive. I do not use iWork much anymore so have not used these features in a while. In the past it worked perfectly though, I would prepare my Keynote on my desktop, save and open on my iPhone or iPad and airplay it to a projector connected to an Apple TV. All worked seamless.

I do wish files would open auotmatically with the app they were made for if the app is present on the iOS device and not just a preview.

I now use this regularly (via iCloud). More attractive since the 'split view' has been enabled on iPad a version or so ago... Also found a way to load my custom fonts on my iPad using the 'AnyFont' app (from the app store) Now that pretty much every meeting room has a large TV, an iPad and a Lighting to DVI connector is all I need

Unless I missed it, what version of MacOS/keynote and what version of iOs/keynote are you using? Is either of them behind on updates?
