: corrupted iPhone backup??

Had issues with my moms iPhone 6 plus camera. I did a backup with iTunes before going to the Apple store. They replaced the phone. I was going to restore from a backup but got this fun message "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "xxxx" because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored.

Phone is the same iPhone 6+ model, I had done an update and backup before going to the Apple store so that should all be fine. Really trying to get pictures and things back. What can I do here or am I stuck paying for an app to try and get the pictures out of the backup??

Bummer, but welcome to Apple's feeble and incomplete attempt for creating a proper iDevice iOS backup.

I'm wondering if iMazing.app could help get things working for you or at least recover some data.

Yes. it costs but well worth it IMHO and sometimes available cheaper with some Mac bundles.
But it does have a limited trial you could try:

I would strongly recommend using it for all iOS backups.

I ended up buying an app called MobiSaver. It let me access the photos from the backup and save them. A bit pricey at $80 but worth it for the irreplaceable pictures. Going to get her set up on some cloud backup for photos.

I found the last time I had to switch phones my Encrypted backup's were ****.. couldn't restore any of them when I went from a 6 to a 7.

Thankfully I hadn't wiped my 6, so I was able to backup again after removing encryption and that seemed to work (thankfully).

This is why I never use encryption. Every time I have tried it, I run into difficulty. In my case, no encryption, no problems.

Nice, and glad to read of such a product that works.

I wonder what the difference is between it and what seems to be a free version?
EaseUS MobiSaver Free for Mac 7.5
https://www.easeus.com/mobile-tool/free-iphone-data-recovery-mac.html

EDIT:
It looks like the free version is just a trial to check and see if it works according to they comparison:

I guess with such products it shows how well Apple's "backup" doesn't work. Otherwise they wouldn't be needed would they. :D :(

I did look at the trial first and when I saw how simply it found the photos from the backup I bought it. Worked as advertised was able to pull all the pictures from the iPhone and videos as well as those saved within apps like WhatsApp. Wish I did not have to pay as I thought I had covered myself by having a backup, but it seems that is no longer enough.

The backup I did did not have encryption. I had issues a while back with one so I just gave up on using it.

You're not alone it seems and that's why I suggested iMazing that has gathered a lot of recommendations and support.

I think there was something to do with backing up Health Data. Medical ID and health wouldn’t backup unless encryption was on.
