First the U.S.S. Ferguson (https://www.ehmac.ca/everything-else-eh/148626-fitzgerald-collision.html), now the U.S.S. John McCain (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-40995829).

Did they recently change instructors at the Navy's ship-driving school, or what?

Ten sailors are missing and five injured after a US destroyer collided with an oil tanker off the coast of Singapore, the US Navy says.

The USS John McCain was sailing east of Singapore and preparing to stop in the port when it struck the Liberian-flagged vessel.

A wide-ranging search and rescue operation is under way.

It is the second serious collision involving a US Navy ship in recent months.

Very bizarre. From the picture it looks like it was the US ship that rammed. Still not sure why they could not see it coming to avoid and how the tanker did not see the US ship.

With the level of telemetry available to even the commercial ships, this is a ludicrous outcome.

With the level of telemetry available to even the commercial ships, this is a ludicrous outcome.

I wonder if it could be something intentional.

Is the US Navy testing some sort of new stealth technology? If so it seems to work.

The USS Fitzgerald and USS John S. McCain are sister ships, constructed in the same ship yard and have the same purpose.

This is the 4th this year. My spidery-sense tells me there is something going on, and with all things military, we'll never find out.

Interesting.

US Navy collisions stoke cyber threat concerns (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/national/national-security/article168470432.html)

The Pentagon won’t yet say how the USS John S. McCain was rammed by an oil tanker near Singapore, but red flags are flying as the Navy’s decades-old reliance on electronic guidance systems increasing looks like another target of cyberattack.

More:

“There’s something more than just human error going on because there would have been a lot of humans to be checks and balances,” said Stutzman, a former information warfare specialist in the Navy.

Anyone know why posted youtube videos using what appears to be a "tinyURL" type address won't play on their own in my Safari window. Mavericks OS X 10.9.5.

I even tried disabling all extensions — no improvement.

Not very often that Admirals are deep-sixed.

Navy dismisses 7th Fleet commander after warship accidents* | Colorado Springs Gazette, News (http://gazette.com/navy-dismisses-7th-fleet-commander-after-warship-accidents/article/1609682)

TOKYO — The U.S. Navy dismissed the commander of the Asia-based 7th Fleet on Wednesday after a series of warship accidents raised questions about its operations in the Pacific.

A two-sentence statement said Adm. Scott Swift, commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, had relieved Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin "due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command."

The move follows four Navy accidents in the Pacific since late January, including two collisions that left sailors dead and missing.
