: Those new LG 5K Monitors? Things to be aware of....

LG 5K display must be kept at least 2 meters away from Wi-Fi routers (https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/01/apple-lg-5k-display-issues/)

The spiritual successor to Apple's Thunderbolt Display, the LG UltraFine 5K monitor, which only started shipping out from the Apple online store this week, appears to suffer from a major fault: when placed within two metres (6.5ft) of a wireless router, the display starts to flicker; move it really close, and the monitor goes black and becomes unusable. An LG Electronics support person confirmed the issue, saying it "only happens for the 5K monitors we have, not other LG monitors."

If that wasn't bad enough, 9to5Mac's Zac Hall reports that his LG 5K monitor, under the duress of a nearby Wi-Fi router, can freeze the MacBook Pro that it's plugged into, forcing a reboot to bring it back. When he moved the router (an Apple AirPort Extreme) from beside the monitor to another room, everything went back to normal.

A support rep for LG Electronics confirmed that the 5K monitor can be adversely affected by a nearby wireless router and said that the issue doesn't affect any other LG monitors. Hall was asked to place the router "at least 2 metres away" from the monitor and "to let us know" if the problem still persists after that.

wow what a problem! I know I would be cutting it close here at work. Thankfully no issue with my 5k iMac and being that close to the wifi router. I do like how they are quick to say all the other screens work fine though so no need to worry! If I was LG I would be working on a fix for this and stop selling the screen till it was sorted.

i have the 5K ultra view monitor - my monitor is fine - i configure access points all day long, right next to it.. no issues ..
instead the issue i have is - my MacBook won't wake from sleep - and having to disconnect the laptop and reconnect it or having to reboot.
but i did a nvram and smc reset - last night so far no issue..

i really do love it but ya that was annoying..
also it is so bright it burns my retina - i guess being so close to it is a side affect.

couple of interesting articles..
i have already replaced my cabling with a 3rd party cable so maybe that is why i dont have the router interference
Reports of LG UltraFine 5K Display problems persist, may relate to Thunderbolt cables (http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/02/02/reports-of-lg-ultrafine-5k-display-problems-persist-may-relate-to-thunderbolt-cables)

possible fix/recall - adding shielding
New batch of LG UltraFine 5K displays will have enhanced RF shielding, may not completely fix the problem (http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/02/03/new-batch-of-lg-ultrafine-5k-displays-will-have-enhanced-rf-shielding-may-not-completely-fix-the-problem)

Well that sucks. all that $$ and some RF issues.

Ironically, I finally installed my 21:9 LG ultra wide, and i have a small bug i've repro'd a few times. Has to do w/ having a window in full screen mode open on the ext LG, then dragging one over from the laptop, to said window on ext in SPLIT VIEW. My lap would hang for a few mins OR until i tried to restart the app (usually a browser).

how is for crappy service..
I called LG canada to have my unit addressed.. their reply is we dont service America Monitors. LOL
then i call Apple Canada - they have no answer or way of servicing them. they told me to call LG America..
this is what you get with Tim Cook's Apple now a days.. he is too busy pushing his personal beliefs on to his staff and others instead of
quality control ..
